There's nothing like falling asleep to the sound of nature - although it's less inviting when the nature in question is literally inside your ear.

Which is a learning that TikTok user Desirae Kelly was confronted with in dramatic fashion recently, when she went through the traumatic experience of waking up to the sound of something strange  - only to discover that the noise was actually a spider nestling in her ear.

The 29-year-old from Missouri, originally posted a clip as she sat in urgent care waiting for the nurse to extract the arachnid from her ear, tearfully telling viewers she was embarrassed - and disgusted - by the situation.

The clip, which has been viewed over 21 million views, had thousands of horrified users eagerly and apprehensively waiting for the rest of her hair-raising tale.

In a follow up video, Desirae recalled waking up around 5 a.m., and feeling something in her ear, describing it as a 'fluttering' sensation.

'I thought it was the tassels on the end of my comforter, so I went back to sleep,' she explained in the video, which has been viewed over 2 million times.

'About 10, 15 minutes later, I wake up again, and this time I hadn't quite fallen asleep enough [so] I actually felt something move in my ear,'

Not wanting to risk flushing her ear out herself, Desirae decided to wait until urgent care opened at 8 a.m. - however while she was waiting, the feeling changed from 'fluttering' to painful.

'It felt like a big clump of wax moving at the base of my eardrum,' she explained.  It was so uncomfortable.'

Admitting for a moment she was convinced it was 'just earwax,' her 'worst fear' was confirmed when the nurse took a look and told her 'there is something in your ear.'

Desirae admitted she started immediately crying as the nurse prepared to flush her ear and remove whatever was obstructing it.

'There is a creature in my ear,' she moaned, recalling being in the medical center. 'I'm not nervous about this hurting, I'm nervous for what we're trying to flush out.'

Desirae said she felt whatever that was 'crawl' out of her ear. 'I was tilting my head [and] I watch out of the corner of my eye, something fall and land on my sweater,' she recalled

The nurse then started flushing out her ear - but nothing was happening, and Desirae could feel whatever was in her ear continuing to move.

'She's in the process of refilling the water bottle [and] I feel stuff moving,' the panicked woman said. 'And I'm like, oh, my god, something's moving, something's moving.'

However what happened next exceeded her expectations - and left her disgusted.

'I felt whatever that was crawl out of my ear,' she explained. ' was tilting my head [and] I watch out of the corner of my eye, something fall and land on my sweater.

'I should have known this wasn't just a normal little bug,' she said.

'The  nurse jumped back a step, like, instinctively she kinda jumped back,  and then immediately comes back over and is, like, pulling on my sweater because it was alive on me,' the horrified woman continued.

She said the nurse told her it was a 'common house spider' that had decided to call her ear canal home (stock image)
TikTok users applauded her bravery - many admitting they could not have endured the same ordeal

'So I stand up, and I'm doing like this as it falls from my shoulder to the floor. And I watch it crawl. I watch this black spider with all eight legs crawl across the f**king floor,' Desirae recalled in disgust.

"Then first thing I did was cry and throw up,' she admitted.

According to Desirae, it was a common house spider that crawled into her ear.

'[The nurse] checked my ear, nothing was left,' she assured viewers. '(No) eggs, limbs, extra buddies, nothing. But I am traumatized.'

Horrified TikTok users commented on the post,  many declaring they could not have coped with the unwanted ear-guest.

'I would simply pass away,' declared another.

'Girl I'm traumatized and I wasn't even there,' agreed another.

'You lived my worst nightmare. I'm so glad you are ok!' a viewer wrote.

According to Verywell Health, if you suspect you have a bug in your ear, the best way to remove it is by tilting your head to the side and shaking gently.

If not, they suggested pouring a small amount of vegetable oil or warm water into the ear canal. However, if unsure seek medical help.
